Start with a project, a time window and the symptom you need to explain. Select the project and capability in your conversation. This needs application traces; a Hugging Face dataset cannot substitute for observed failures. What you get: A bounded diagnosis with trace links, coverage and a proposed experiment. The steps below describe the workflow your agent follows and the results to verify.
  1. Call inspect_capability_health for the capability and period. The same observations can also be inspected in the Console’s Traces, Sessions and Signals views. Compare error rate, latency and scoring coverage as separate measurements.
  2. Use query_failures for scored failures or query_traces for errors, session IDs, models and time filters. Keep the trace IDs that support the finding.
  3. Open the trace resource and inspect its span tree. Read the input, output and relevant tool or retrieval evidence before inferring a cause.
  4. Identify whether the result is a low quality score, abstention, technical grading error or pending work. Inspect the row definition and recorded reason. Missing scores are not passes or zeros.
  5. Compare with successful requests from the same task and conditions. Check whether the apparent pattern is multiple independent cases or repeated observations of one conversation.
  6. Record a bounded finding: affected cases, the measured symptom, evidence and unresolved hypotheses.
For recurring observations, use list_signals to inspect the catalogue and set_signal_subscription to configure the relevant project or capability subscription. Signals appear in Observability. Model-backed plan drift is opt-in; a signal is a reason to investigate, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Turn evidence into an experiment

Select relevant traces and create a dataset, then prepare its inputs and references. A recorded response is evidence of what happened, not automatically a correct answer. Use evaluation for an output comparison or the optimiser for changes that must execute in the repository. Keep cases used to develop the change separate from final assessment. See How evaluation works for the relationship between live scoring and frozen runs.
