Use this guide when you have application code and want Overmind to relate its structure to traces and evaluation criteria. A data-only project does not need this step. Open the application repository and connect Overmind first. What you get: A source-backed capability map and the repository provenance attached to it. The steps below describe the workflow your agent follows and the results to verify.
  1. Connect your coding agent from the repository root and verify the destination project.
  2. Ask the agent to run the installed Overmind setup workflow. On clients with slash commands, use /overmind setup.
  3. Review the discovered product purposes. A capability should describe work such as routing a support request; internal workers or model roles do not automatically need separate capabilities.
  4. Review the source-backed entry points, prompts, tools, branches and expected outcomes. Repair unmapped transitions from the code before syncing.
  5. Review overmind.toml and the endpoint, project and metadata to be uploaded. The workflow runs overmind chassis, authors the map and runs overmind sync. It does not upload a repository archive, but captured prompts and source metadata are included.
  6. Verify the successful sync and read overmind://project/current?project_id=PROJECT_ID or inspect the Agent page. Check capability IDs and repository provenance.
The chassis supports Python and TypeScript/JavaScript. Structural verification confirms source anchors and reachability; it does not prove that the application always follows the intended path. Keep capability slugs stable when changing display names. A capability absent from a later scan becomes a leftover; its data remains. Commit the manifest, keeping .overmind/credentials.toml and credential-bearing client configuration out of version control. After changing source code, refresh the scan. If the checkout changed during scanning, repeat it so the retained provenance describes the code actually inspected. Next, instrument the application. A scan alone does not emit traces.
