1. Establish the MCP connection
The quick-start instructions cover MCP configuration, the Python package and client setup. The Overmind Cloud MCP endpoint ishttps://api.overmindlab.ai/api/mcp/.
For a repository, install the CLI and initialise your client:
codex with cursor, claude or opencode as appropriate. init installs skills and client configuration; it does not by itself prove authentication or a completed repository scan.
Authenticate with your Overmind account through the supported account connection or API key. Keep credentials in the client’s protected configuration, not in prompts or committed files. Reload the client after changing MCP configuration.
2. Verify the destination
Ask the connected agent to calllist_projects. Check connection.mcp_url, choose the intended project and keep its UUID. Account connections supply project_id on every project operation. IDs from another deployment cannot identify this project’s resources.
Read overmind://interface/current for the connected contract and catalogue fingerprint. Refresh the client’s tool list when it has cached an older schema.
3. Configure and check file transfer
MCP authentication does not automatically give the CLI access to local bytes. With an authorized account key already available locally, configure the endpoint-bound account connection:4. Choose the next task
For a dataset-to-model workflow, choose How to train a decision model for typed probabilities or How to fine-tune a language model for generated responses. For an application repository, map its capabilities. Data-first projects can proceed without a scan.Using a self-hosted deployment
If you run the open-source platform yourself, use the API address of that installation in place of the Cloud URL throughout this guide. Its MCP endpoint ends in/api/mcp/. Follow Self-host Overmind for deployment instructions and Deployment configuration for server settings.
If connection fails
- Wrong endpoint: correct the connection to the intended deployment before sending its credentials. Do not reuse a credential against a different address.
- MCP works, upload fails: check the CLI’s resolved account connection and project scope.
- Sandbox network denial: request scoped host network permission in the coding environment, then repeat the same connection check.
- Missing tool: refresh the catalogue and inspect the connected contract before concluding that a feature is unavailable.
