A dataset is a retained source and the published steps derived from it. A cell identifies a concrete version of rows. A recipe revision identifies the code used to create an output, and a run receipt records its execution against exact inputs. Ask this in the project conversation after creating the relevant tutorial or workflow results.

Original evidence and prepared data

Original bytes remain available after landing. Document extraction retains page and region evidence, parser/OCR facts and known limitations. Extracted text is a representation of a source, not proof that every visual detail was recovered. Preparation changes data through retained code. Publication checks structure, lineage and declared requirements. It cannot establish that an ambiguous numeric column means calibrated probabilities or that a generated answer is correct. Preserve uncertainty in the output and supporting explanation. Technical compatibility and semantic suitability answer different questions.

Versions belong to consumers

A training or evaluation consumer pins exact cells. A later preparation cannot silently change what an earlier result measured. Correcting a recipe produces a new revision and output; historical inputs stay reproducible even when the Console shows the corrected preparation. A displayed version number is a navigation aid. Cell IDs and fingerprints identify the actual data. Exporting a cell reads its rows; it is not the same action as freezing a consumer’s inputs. Duplicate observations, multiple turns from one conversation, shared source content and synthetic descendants can carry related information. Splitting them across fitting and final evaluation can reveal the answer indirectly. Saved partitions preserve inherited identities and declared groups. They retain duplicate observations rather than erasing their frequency or weights. Exact overlap checks cannot rule out paraphrases or pretraining contamination. Development data supports choices during fitting. Calibration data supports fitted calibration. Final data supports a later comparison after those choices are fixed. Reusing final outcomes to choose a recipe changes what that comparison can establish.

Execution attribution

A platform run links its package, revision, source and output. An external import validates supplied lineage and records its producer. Those are different claims: attributed external execution is not independently verified execution. See Prepare data, Partition data and Pipeline reference.
